Questions & Answer
Check out our Frequently Asked Questions and hopefully we can answer any questions you may have.
What is bean-to-bar chocolate?
Bean-to-bar means we control the entire process—from sourcing premium dried cocoa beans to roasting, winnowing, grinding, refining, tempering, and hand-wrapping each bar. Unlike many commercial chocolates that start with pre-made chocolate liquor, we craft everything in small batches to highlight the unique flavors of each origin.
What does “single origin” mean?
Each of our bars features cocoa beans from one specific region—Camino Verde in Ecuador, Ambanja in Madagascar, or Maya Mountain in Belize. This approach celebrates the distinct terroir, climate, and farming practices of that place, resulting in complex, nuanced tasting notes that vary by origin.
Where do your cocoa beans come from?
We source high-quality cacao directly from three exceptional origins known for their fine flavor profiles: the biodiverse lowlands of southern Ecuador, the lush Sambirano Valley in Madagascar, and the tropical Maya Mountain region of Belize. These partnerships allow us to support sustainable practices and bring out the best natural character in every bar.
Are you available in any stores?
Native Bean chocolate is currently available exclusively through our online shop. We focus on small-batch production to maintain the highest quality and freshness. If you’re a retailer interested in carrying our bars, please reach out via our Contact page for wholesale inquiries.
How should I store my chocolate?
For the best flavor and texture, store your Native Bean bars in a cool, dry place between 65–68°F (18–20°C), away from direct sunlight and strong odors. Avoid refrigeration, as temperature changes can cause the cocoa butter to bloom (a harmless white film). Properly stored, our bars will maintain their quality for several months.
Why is craft chocolate more expensive than grocery store bars?
Our higher price reflects the use of premium single-origin cacao, small-batch artisan methods, and hands-on craftsmanship. We pay attention to every detail—from careful bean selection to meticulous tempering and hand-wrapping—so you experience exceptional flavor and quality that mass-produced chocolate simply cannot match.
How do I taste and enjoy your chocolate?
We recommend tasting at room temperature. Break off a piece, let it melt slowly on your tongue, and notice the evolving flavors. Start with lighter notes (fruit, floral) and move to deeper ones (nutty, chocolatey). Pair with red wine, coffee, or fruit for an enhanced experience—tasting notes are provided on each product page.
